Sheena Ager, also known as S. L. Ager, boosts children’s literacy with her ‘Vocabulary Novels’. Across seven titles in the best-selling The Cadwaladr Chronicles and Quests series, these fantasy-adventure stories serve year four and five students’ vocabulary needs, inspired by her children’s grammar school experiences in Reading, Berkshire.
UK tuition centres and independent schools now use them in their curriculum. Ager crafted ‘Tangled Time’, aimed at year five, for her son, a reluctant reader preparing for the 11+. Its success led to The Cadwaladr Quests, a three-book serial and workbooks with Education Boutique and XLEducation, enhancing students’ comprehension and creative writing.
To meet the demand for younger reader material, Ager wrote The Cadwaladr Chronicles, a four-book prequel for years four and five. All novels now feature ‘KNOWLEDGE NUGGETS’, which provide on-page explanations of literary devices, inferential questions and SPaG.
Ager also offers free weekly online sessions, supporting her readers with SPaG, inference and vocabulary, creating a relaxed learning environment. In her Facebook group of nearly 9,000, parents upload work (anonymously if preferred) for free feedback from tutors and teachers, fostering a collaborative space to improve writing skills.
